Meet Beverly the Beaver
Long before Downtown Beaverton became the vibrant, creative, food-filled community it is today, there was a curious little beaver named Beverly.
Legend says Beverly wandered into downtown looking for the perfect place to build her lodge. Instead, she found something even better: amazing small businesses, kind people, hidden art, sweet treats, live music, and tiny moments of magic tucked into every corner.
Beverly quickly became obsessed with collecting tiny treasures, shiny trinkets, doodads, and meaningful little objects left behind by the community. Rather than keeping them all to herself, she decided to hide them throughout Downtown Beaverton for others to discover.
Now, Beverly spends her days sneaking around downtown, visiting local businesses, sipping boba, sharing pastries, listening to music at the Commons, and expanding her famous Trinket Trail.
The Beverly the Beaver Trinket Trail is a community treasure hunt featuring tiny trinket exchange spots hidden throughout Downtown Beaverton. Visitors are encouraged to explore downtown, discover local businesses, take a trinket, leave one behind if they’d like, and help keep Beverly’s adventures going.
Because according to Beverly, the best communities are built one tiny treasure, one small business, and one shared moment at a time.

Who created Beverly the Beaver?
Beverly was created by local artist Luke Egge, owner of Rise Screen & Sign. Luke hand-drew the original Beverly illustration and then brought his artwork into Adobe Photoshop to complete the digital design.
Was Beverly created using generative AI?
As part of his normal digital illustration process, Luke then worked with the drawing in Adobe Photoshop to refine the artwork, including coloring and defining the lines. Some Adobe tools used during that process incorporate AI-assisted features, but generative AI was not used to create Beverly or generate her original design.
How was Beverly created?
Luke's process included:
- Drawing Beverly's original sketch by hand using a Wacom Cintiq
- Developing her features, expression, and overall character design
- Refining and defining the original linework
- Adding color and finishing details in Adobe Photoshop
- Preparing the final artwork for BDA's digital and printed materials
Beverly began with an artist and a blank digital canvas- not an AI-generated image.
Why is there confusion about whether Beverly is AI-generated?
Many modern creative software programs now incorporate AI-powered features for tasks such as coloring, sharpening, selecting, removing backgrounds, or refining images. Using a software feature that incorporates AI is different from asking a generative AI system to create an original image.
In Beverly's case, the artist created the original artwork. Technology was used as a tool in finishing that artwork- not as the creator of it.
Can we see how Beverly was created?
Beverly began as Luke's hand-drawn illustration before being brought into Photoshop for coloring and refinement. When available, we'll share some of the behind-the-scenes process here.
Does the BDA support local artists?
Absolutely. Local artists, designers, businesses, volunteers, and other creatives contribute to many of the things you see throughout Downtown Beaverton.
We believe technology and creative tools should support—not obscure—the people behind creative work. Going forward, we are committed to being transparent about how creative content is produced and to crediting the artists and designers who contribute their talents to our work.
Who owns Beverly?
everly was created for the Beaverton Downtown Association as our community mascot. You'll see her popping up at downtown events and activities throughout the year.
And yes, she is a beaver. This is Beaverton, after all.
